Dorr, G. H., PhD (The Ladykillers)- Goldthwaite Higginson Dorr is a talkative, pretentious, yet charming Southern man, In The Ladykillers, Dorr takes advantage of the elderly Mrs. Marva Munson who is a sweet, innocent woman, but also a God-fearing widow. Dorr tells Munson that he is a musician and that he is interested in renting out her spare bedroom. He asks if it would be all right for him to also use her basement as a place for recitals with his fellow “band mates" and “musicians”. Munson accepts and agrees to the terms. Mr. Dorr's fellow "musicians" are actually a gang of criminals, consisting of: The General, a quiet, tough-as-nails donut cook with expertise in war torture, which were obtained in the Vietcong; Gawain, the “inside man", a young janitor who works on the riverboat casino the “Bandit Queen"; Garth Pancake, an animal trainer for TV commercials with deep knowledge in explosives; and Lump, the stereotypically dumb but strong football player. Dorr is the mastermind behind the casino heist.

Dorr claims to have earned his Ph.D. degree because of his knowledge of ancient Latin and Greek. He claims to be a graduate of Sorbonne University in France with a Baccalaureate degree. He also claims to be a professor of renaissance music at the University of Mississippi, but makes the mistake stating that it is located in Hattiesburg. The University of Mississippi is actually located in Oxford where there is a music professor by the name of "George Dor".

The group of men plan to dig a tunnel in Munson's basement and to get to the vault of the casino. To avoid Mrs. Munson's hearing the digging, they play orchestral CDs to make it sound like they are rehearsing. After a series of comical mishaps they break through the wall to the vault and steal the money.

Outraged, when she finds out what the men have done, Munson privately tells Dorr to either return the money to casino and repent their sins at the church, or else she will call the police. Dorr apologizes to her causing disruption in her home and tells her he will talk to the men. Not willing to give up the money, the gang decides to murder Munson.
