Biography:
(1954- ). American SF writer, a spokesman for and practitioner of Cyberpunk. In addition to such books as The Artificial Kid (1980), Shismatrix (1985), Islands in the Net (1988), Crystal Express (1989), he co-authored The Difference Engine (1992) with William Gibson, wrote The Hacker Crackdown (1993), and edited Mirrorshades: The Cyberpunk Anthology (1986).

Bruce Sterling has been publishing since 1976, and his stories appear frequently in the Best of the Year collections. He edited the anthology Mirrorshades (1986), which showcased cyberpunk as a category of science fiction. His novels include Schismatrix (1985) and Islands in the Net (1988), and his story collections TheCrystal Express and Globalhead (1992). His most recent publication is a nonfiction work, Hacker Crackdown. He lives in Austin.
